The City of Romulus, in partnership with Romulus Community Schools and the Romulus Ministerial Alliance, is organizing a community event to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event, titled “One Romulus: Living the Dream in Action,” aims to encourage reflection and renewal of commitment to Dr. King’s vision.
The day will begin with shuttle service from Romulus High School to Romulus Middle School between 7:00 am and 7:45 am. Participants are asked to gather at the middle school by 7:30 am. At 8:00 am, a community march will start from the middle school and proceed to the high school.
During the morning, there will be a service project called “Romulus Community Warm-Up,” which focuses on supporting unhoused individuals in the area. Attendees can participate in packaging donated items for distribution as part of this effort.
A meet and greet with refreshments provided by Kroger will take place from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the high school cafeteria. The MLK Celebration Ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 am in the high school auditorium.
The planning committee is collecting donations such as gloves, hats, socks, toiletries, blankets, large tote bags, and ponchos for those in need. Items can be dropped off at several locations including Romulus City Hall, Romulus Athletic Center, Romulus Public Library, Public Service Credit Union, and Walter’s Bar/Romulus Lanes until January 12th.
“The City of Romulus, Romulus Community Schools and Romulus Ministerial Alliance invite the community to join us for a day to remember, reflect and renew our commitment to the Dream!”
