The City of Taylor will hold its annual Winterfest Celebration on Saturday, December 6 at Heritage Park. The event features a range of activities throughout the day, including a morning run, an afternoon parade, and an evening tree lighting ceremony followed by fireworks.

The Winterfest Goodfellows Hot Cocoa 5K/Walk begins the day’s festivities. There are options for both adults and children, with the children’s run starting at 9:30 a.m. and the main 5K following at 10 a.m. Registration is available online, with early sign-ups costing $40 until December 1 and increasing to $45 on race day. The children’s one-mile fun run is priced at $25 through December 1 and $30 on the day of the event.

Participants in the race will receive finisher medals, long sleeve t-shirts, snacks, age group awards, and hot cocoa at the finish line. This year, Taylor Police will also be making fresh pancakes onsite. All proceeds from these activities will go to support the Taylor Goodfellows.

The Winterfest parade starts at 5 p.m., beginning at Taylor Recreation and moving down Pardee Road to Heritage Park’s pavilion. During this time, Pardee Road between Goddard and Northline will be closed for about 45 minutes to accommodate the parade.

From 4-7 p.m., additional activities will take place in the Sheridan Open Air Pavilion. These include free photos with Santa after the tree lighting, photo opportunities with Grinch characters, live ice carving demonstrations, holiday crafts for children, face painting (for purchase), food trucks (for purchase), as well as hot cocoa and other drinks available for sale.

Sarah Sherrard and the Sugar Ham Band are scheduled to perform live on stage at the pavilion. Carey Ann the Clown will act as master of ceremonies for part of the evening’s program. Mayor Tim Woolley is expected to introduce Santa and Mrs. Claus before presiding over the official tree-lighting ceremony that concludes with fireworks.
