The City of Trenton has issued a notice to landowners within its boundaries, requiring them to cut down, destroy, and remove all noxious weeds as well as dead grass and brush from their properties. The notice specifies that these actions must be completed by three deadlines: June 1, July 15, and September 1.

According to the notice, the purpose of these requirements is “to prevent such weeds from going to seed or to blossom, and to prevent such dead grass and brush from becoming a fire hazard.”

The city warns that failure to comply with the deadlines will result in the city carrying out the necessary work itself. In such cases, “said cost [will] be levied and collected against said lands in the same manner as prescribed by the City Charter and City Code,” according to Debra R. Devitt, City Clerk.

This action is part of ongoing efforts by local governments in Michigan to address public health concerns related to vegetation management and fire safety on private property.
