Wayne County Health Division orders screening of essential employees

Caregiver

Businesses that have been deemed "essential" by the state have been instructed to screen their employees for COVID-19. The Wayne County Public Health Division issued two emergency orders for businesses to screen employees and establish social-distancing protocols within places of employment.

The orders have an indefinite end date, and they ask the employer to inquire about employees' current symptoms, travel history and contact with individuals who have tested positive. The News-Herald said businesses are also required to take employees' temperatures.

Should there be a "yes" response to any of the questions or a high body temperature, employees will be sent home. The time spent at home would vary, beginning with a minimum of seven days since symptoms first appeared and three days after symptoms are no longer present. Employees will also be asked to stay at home or quarantine for 14 days if they have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 or have recently traveled domestically or internationally.

An additional screening order was passed for child care workers who are providing care for the children of critical infrastructure workers.
