The Trenton Athletic Club, which had been in operation for 42 years, is closing permanently as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the News-Herald reported.
The club was forced to temporarily close when Michigan issued a stay-at-home order, which shut down what it considered nonessential businesses.
General Manager of the Trenton Athletic Club, Larry Jakinovich, initially posted a letter on its Facebook page stating that it planned to remain closed until March 30.
“We hope that everyone is handling the situation well and are continuing to stay healthy. Keep your immune system strong by eating well, continue exercising the best you can, and get a good night’s rest every day,” the post said. “These are all essential to keeping you healthy and strong.”
However, the owners of the club, John and Vincent Finazzo, wrote in a letter to members on April 29 stating that the club would be permanently closing. They said that operations would be difficult for a long time, as governmental guidelines will likely be in place for the foreseeable future.
“We have appreciated the support of our community and feel fortunate to have been able to help many people improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” the owners wrote, as reported by the News-Herald.
The club opened in 1978 under the name Racquet King Courts and operated solely as a racquetball club. As time went on, the club slowly added different amenities and became a full health club.
