State Rep. Joe Bellino (R-Dist. 17) recently stressed the importance of protections against lawsuits that recently-passed legislation would afford to the front-line workers in Michigan’s health care industry.
“Michigan’s health care workers have put their own well-being on the line to provide critical care throughout this health crisis,” Bellino said in a release issued on the Michigan House Republicans website. “They’ve been forced to make incredibly difficult decisions under strained circumstances with limited resources in an effort to save lives.”
The legislation would reinstate some of the protections that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently took back away from health care workers after rescinding the executive order that had included those protections, the release stated. In contrast, Senate Bill 899 would ensure that protections remain in place until the COVID-19 pandemic is past.
“I’ve got the backs of our health care heroes, and I hope our governor does too,” Bellino said in the release. “I think we can all agree: We want our medical professionals focusing on how best to care for their patients, rather than worrying about the possibility of a lawsuit.”
