According to recent data released by Michigan.gov, almost 90% of COVID-19 deaths are individuals older than 65.
This seems to support the hypothesis put forward by many medical professionals that seniors are most at risk in the pandemic. In addition to this data, it is also unsurprising that almost 40% of the deaths were in those aged 85 or older.
In total, there were 652 deaths from COVID-19 in the period between Oct. 2 and Nov. 5, with 568 of those deaths people over the age of 65. Only seven of those total deaths were in individuals under the age of 45, which comes to a little over 1%. This data continues to paint a picture of the need to protect the senior population as the pandemic continues to worsen by the day.
For Michigan, the data does prove any new conclusions. With this in mind, it is expected that the gridlock between the state government and the governor will continue as they debate which steps, if any, to take in response the crisis.
