Romulus Community Schools issued the following announcement on Oct 31.
Greetings RHS Families and Community Partners:
We are adjusting to a new reality. COVID has impacted our students, staff, and families. The current crisis has not ended and we are still adjusting as our state has almost 4,000 new cases each day. We are fortunate to have several resources to support our decision-making process and that includes our Beaumont Teen Health Clinic partners. This crisis has forced us to adjust our instructional planning. We need you to make sure that your scholar is in good health prior to coming to school each day. COVID is different!
COVID REMINDERS
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar in children and adults. Symptoms can include Fever(>100.4F), cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, loss of taste or smell, abdominal pain.
RHS COMMUNITY-ACADEMIC COLLABORATIVE
Our students have tremendous ability and intelligence. Social Media can hurt their learning and academic ability. Please identify daily times for your scholar to read something other than a social media post or text message. The average student is now spending close to 10+ hours on their phones or technology. We could accomplish so much if they used one to two hours of that time reading every day. Please help us, help our scholars.
RHS TUTORING VOLUNTEERS
Students across the United States have not had a full year of onsite learning in almost two years. We need any interested adults and community partners to email Mr. Pate or me directly if you can support our students as a volunteer academic tutor.
CREDIT RECOVERY
The RHS Credit Recovery Program has started. All 10th-12th grade students who were identified for credit recovery have been contacted. It is imperative that students take advantage of this opportunity. Students started online classes two weeks ago. Mrs. Zoltowski and Mr. Catanzarite are leading the process.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT CEREMONY - (INVITATION ONLY)
The RHS Academic Ceremony tradition continues. We are very thankful for the hard work of Mrs. Dethloff to ensure that this very important award ceremony continues. We want to always support and acknowledge our students. This event will happen on November 4th and will start at 8 am. It usually lasts about an hour. All attendees will have to follow the COVID protocols. We will be enforcing the RHS district social distancing and mask-wearing policy. Honor students should have received their invitations in the mail. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Dethloff at 734-532-1003.
NOVEMBER 1ST: VIRTUAL SENIOR MEETING
Mrs. Burton, our RHS Senior Advisor will be hosting a Virtual Parent meeting on November 1st from 5-6 pm. She will share important dates and other senior-related timelines. This is a very important meeting for our seniors and our families. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

There will be NO SCHOOL for students on November 2nd. The district has scheduled a full day of teacher professional development. Teachers will be engaged in working on strategies to increase student engagement and lesson planning.

We ask that parents continue to monitor their scholar's performance via our Parent Connect system. We will continue to host monthly student assemblies to remind RHS students about our grading schedule, credits needed to graduate, and best practices for improving their achievement.

RHS SUPPORT OPTIONS
Parents if you have concerns about your child's social-emotional health please reach out to our RHS counseling team: Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Burton, and Mrs.Pierson, and our General Education Social Worker Ms. Barr. We are here to help and support you.
VAPING AND YOUNG STUDENTS
Parents, vaping is a serious issue. Please check your child’s backpack, monitor their behaviors, and if you notice certain smells on their clothing please ask the important questions. Vaping is a seriously addictive habit that can cause irreparable lung damage. We have a great General Education Social Worker Ms. Barr who can assist. The Success Lab will also be working with students on educating them on the health effects of vaping and providing resources to guide students towards quitting.
