Romulus Community Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 30.
Dear Romulus Community Schools District Students, Staff and Families,
You may be aware that there was a shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County today. According to several reports, there were at least 3 people who died and 6 injured. We want to keep all families affected in our warmest thoughts. News outlets further report that a student was the alleged shooter. Although many may see this as just a tragedy, this was also a cry for help.
To this end, we remind you that we have emergency/safety procedures in place to keep all stakeholders safe on our campuses, but it is not just the responsibility of school or district officials. There is a collective responsibility on the entire learning community to provide a safe environment for teaching and learning throughout Romulus Community Schools. Also, be aware of your student’s mood, attitude, conversation, and disposition. So often, we miss the “silent triggers” that scream for attention.
This shooting, and others like it, are truly tragic; but remember, we are always stronger together.
