Soroptimist of Trenton and Downriver Area’s Barbara Rigg Memorial Award Criteria
This $1750 award recognizes and honors an outstanding woman who is volunteering her time and talent by making a significant contribution to her community through time, commitment, dedication, action, creativity, cooperation, energy, skills, and/or leadership in her volunteer role. The honoree selected should serve as a role model for compassion and service; and be striving to make the world a better place. She should have a passion for helping others in her community. The charitable activities cannot be a part of the nominee’s job description or duties.
Criteria
The nominee should qualify in the following areas:
•Length of service – The amount of time the volunteer has dedicated to volunteering in her community or organization.
•Type of involvement - A description of the participation or work performed.
•Level of impact on the community – A description of the way in which the community has benefitted from the volunteer’s work.
Judging
•40% - The degree to which her volunteering has made a lasting or meaningful contribution on her community.
•20% - The length and degree of her service.
•20% - The extent to which her service or action might be considered above and beyond the call of duty.
•10% - The extent to which her action would be recognized and valued by her peers and community leaders.
•10% - The honoree’s choice of charity to receive the $1750.
Award
The winner will be recognized and honored at the SI of Trenton Area and Downriver award ceremony. Her $1750 shall be given to the charity of her choice.

Soroptimist also sponsors LiveYourDream.org, an online community empowering offline volunteer action. The self-motivated network is made up of people who wish to support women and girls in their quest to lead better lives, while gaining inspiration in their own lives. Members of the free online community work on topics such as women’s economic empowerment, ending violence against women, human trafficking, and more. They also have access to inspirational articles, tips, and blogs that can help them live their own personal dreams.
Soroptimist of Trenton and Downriver Area provides services to First Step, Vista Maria, Stanford House , local food pantries and efforts towards awareness, prevention of human trafficking and domestic violence and shelter and services to survivors. We also provide financial awards to girls and women involved in community service; seeking a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree, and one for women who are head of household seeking a certificate, associate’s degree, GED or high school completion, apprenticeship or skilled trades training.
