City of Trenton issued the following announcement on Dec 21.
The City of Trenton is seeking applications for the vacant Councilperson position for the remaining unexpired term of office through November 20, 2023, created by the resignation of William D. LeFevre.
Per section 5.6(c) of the City Charter, vacancies occurring in the Office of Council for more than one hundred twenty days before the next regular city election shall be filled on or before the third regular Council meeting following such vacancy by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Council, said appointee to hold office until the Monday following such election at which election such vacancies shall be filled as provided in Section 3.6 for any balance of the original unexpired term.
The applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, shall have been a resident of the City for at least two (2) years prior to the date of his appointment, not in default to the City, and shall be a qualified and registered elector of the city on such day and throughout his tenure in office, per Section 5.1 of the City Charter.
Eligible residents of the City of Trenton interested in being considered for appointment as Councilperson are asked to submit their letter of interest/resume and the corresponding application by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022, to the City Clerk's Office, 2800 Third Street, Trenton, Michigan 48183. Candidates are expected to be available for public interviews at the Special Council Meeting to be held following the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
