After a record-setting performance in the Men's Magnificent Mile, Michigan State graduate student Morgan Beadlescomb was named the Big 10 Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Beadlescomb was coming off a performance at the Windy City Invite where his 3:52.03 time in the Magnificent Mile set a personal record and a Spartan record, MSU reported in a release on Feb. 16. It was also the fourth-fastest time ever recorded in the NCAA by a man for an indoor mile.
"Beadlescomb is the second Spartan to earn weekly honors from the conference during the 2021-22 indoor track and field season, as pole vaulter Sophia Franklin was named the B1G Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week last week after breaking the school indoor record with a 4.38m vault at the Meyo Invitational," the Spartans reported.
Beadlescomb, who is a four-time NCAA All-American in track and three time All-American cross-country runner, holds five school records between the two sports, the Spartans reported.
The record set at the Windy City Invite is the second time he has broken a record this season, the Spartans reported. He ran a 7:43.22 in the 3,000-meter at the 114th Millrose Games in January. The mile time he posted is the NCAA's fastest this season. Beadlescomb is also the school record-holder in the 5,000-meter with a time of 13:31.50.
