City extends contract with curbside service provider Priority Waste

Electronic

City of Taylor issued the following announcement on Feb 18.

This week, the City of Taylor renewed its contract with curbside service provider Priority Waste LLC for two, additional one-year terms. City Council unanimously approved of the extension.

Council originally approved a transfer of the then-existing account to Priority on November 3, 2021.

Mayor Tim Woolley recommended the extension for two reasons: He wanted to lock in what could be an escalating costs, and his administration was satisfied with the new curbside service provider’s performance.

“I personally felt that it was important to keep our expenditures under control in this area,” Woolley said. “In addition, we felt that Priority is doing a very solid job. They have been responsive to the needs of our residents.”

The mayor also noted that he’d like to see the City extend reasonable contracts in other areas with firms that have a proven track record in Taylor.

Under the extension with Priority, the collections and schedule have remained the same: Trash, recycling, compost and bulk on your usual pickup day.

Some reminders about curbside service:

  • Containers are used for trash and recycling pickups. Customers should fill their trash and recycling containers responsibility, and should not overfill them. Overfilling stops the lid from closing and often prevents the hydraulic arm of the truck from picking up and dumping the container properly. Overflow can be bagged and left next to the container at curbside.
  • Bulk collection items should be placed at curbside for collection. However, if a resident has a major renovation project, concrete or walls, they would need a special pickup (or possibly a rented dumpster), which can also be provided by Priority.
  • Actual rubbish pickup can occur at any time during your scheduled day. Rubbish may be put out for pickup no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before your regular pickup day.
  • Branches that do not fit in cans or yard waste bags must be tied and bundled in 4-foot lengths of less than 50 pounds.
  • Compost must be placed in rubbish cans or in paper yard waste bags and marked accordingly.
  • Compost must be separated from household rubbish.
  • Compost pickup is scheduled from March through mid-December (depending on the weather). It will not be picked up from January through February.
  • The following items will not be accepted curbside at any time: whole shrubs, tree stumps, sod, dirt, rocks, building materials, concrete, landscape bricks, tires, car parts, shingles, tires, hazardous materials, and electronics.
  • Do not place compost in plastic bags.
  • Refrigeration bearing items (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, etc.) will be accepted at curbside, but only after a licensed contractor has removed the Freon. (This is a change from the previous guidelines.)
  • Rubbish should be bagged before being placed into the cart.
  • There is no parking allowed on the street on your rubbish collection day.
If you have questions or need more information about Priority Waste’s service, please call (855) 927-8365 or file a message on the City’s free app, iCare Taylor, which available at The App Store online. This would include issues like missed pickups, replacement containers, spills, etc
