Updated Mask Mandate

Romulus Community Schools issued the following announcement on Feb 25.

Dear Romulus Community School District Students, Families, Students and Staff:

As you may be aware, the Wayne County Health Department issued a notice stating that it has lifted its Emergency Order requiring face masks in educational settings. This is in response to the updated masking guidance from MDHHS and the declining COVID-19 infection rates in our state, Wayne County and in our district.

In accordance with this announcement, RCS families and staff may make individual choices regarding masking based on their own circumstances. RCS will support students and staff members in their choice to wear a mask, or not, while in school or participating in after school activities. There will be zero tolerance for bullying about mask choice in our school environment.

There are, however, two areas where masks will still be required:

While the decline in transmission rates is a positive sign in our ongoing battle with COVID-19, I want to urge everyone to remain diligent in helping prevent the spread of this virus. We have seen fluctuations in the infection rate in the past, and it is important that we work together to ensure we are able to provide in-person learning as we have successfully done since the beginning of the school year.

As always, we make all decisions based on the health and safety of our students and staff.  Thank you so much for your ongoing support as we navigate this ever-changing pandemic.

For Excellence and Equity,

Nelson A. Henry

Interim Executive Director of Instruction
