Melvindale-North Allen Park Schools issued the following announcement on Feb 17.

Dear Cardinal Families,

The Wayne County Health Department initially communicated their intention to end the mask mandate in educational settings February 28, 2022. However, we were just informed that effective immediately, masks will no longer be mandated in Wayne County schools.

It is important to note that students, staff and visitors will still have the option to wear masks in school although the county mandate has been lifted. This will be a personal/family decision, and we ask our parents/guardians to take some time to talk to your child(ren) about showing respect to all – regardless of whether an individual is wearing a mask, or not wearing a mask. Please note that the federal law still requires students to wear masks on the buses.

We apologize for the short notice and thank you for your patience as we navigate through this process with all of you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary Ann Cyr

Interim Superintendent
