Aerostar Manufacturing will be expanding operations at its facility in Romulus, according to a joint statement issued earlier this month by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

Quentin Messer Jr., CEO of the MEDC and president and chair of the Michigan Strategic Fund, said they were honored to back Aerostar Manufacturing in its expansion, which will facilitate the need for 62 workers at the facility.

"Congratulations to the entire Aerostar team on your tremendous growth and success! We appreciate your continued vote of confidence in our state and in our workforce," Messer said. "This project is a win for Southeast Michigan and for the entire state. We are grateful to the governor and legislators for the continued support of the Michigan Business Development Program. We're proud to join our local partners as we celebrate Aerostar's expansion in Michigan and look forward to working together to grow, add jobs and provide greater opportunity for our friends and neighbors."

The Michigan Business Development Program will provide Aerostar Manufacturing with $200,000 in performance incentives for the $8.8 million renovation of its facility, according to a news release that stated the Romulus facility was picked over company sites in Georgia and Indiana.

The City of Romulus serves as Aerostar Manufacturing's home base where they manufacture “CNC machining and assembly for the automotive, heavy truck, defense, aerospace and other key” sectors with the company presently employing 131 workers in the state.

The governor’s office reported that the company is growing rapidly and is proposing to develop a new industrial facility in Romulus for “light to medium manufacturing, CNC machining, assembly and other related industrial activities.”

"After a careful analysis, we decided to expand our operations in the state of Michigan vis-a-vis states of Georgia or Indiana. We are thankful to Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Detroit Region Aerotropolis Development Corporation and the city of Romulus in helping us navigate every step of the application process in order to obtain various state and local benefits," Aerostar Manufacturing CEO Lalit Goel said. "In the end, it wasn't just the dollars and cents, but many intangibles like manufacturing infrastructure, trained workforce and being close to many world-class existing and potential customers in Michigan that tipped the scale in Michigan's favor."
