City of Wyandotte issued the following announcement on Mar 15.
Attention Wyandotte Residents & Businesses,
We have received reports of calls being made to Wyandotte Residents from individuals claiming to represent Wyandotte Municipal Services and DTE Energy. These callers are seeking immediate payment to prevent a service interruption or cut-off of power or gas.
DO NOT AGREE TO PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE, IT IS A SCAM. Wyandotte Municipal Services will never contact customers by phone regarding their accounts. All such correspondence is sent via mail.
Because local gas, water and electric companies do sometimes contact their customers by phone, it can be difficult to tell a scammer from a real agent.
Here are some tips:
Never allow anyone into your home to check electrical wiring, natural gas pipes or appliances unless you have scheduled an appointment or reported a problem. Also, ask utility employees for proper identification.
If you are in doubt about the status of your Electric, Water or Cable account, call Wyandotte Municipal Services at 734-324-7190.
For information about your DTE Energy account call 1.800.477.4747.
