As shelters nationwide are filled with needy animals, adoption and license fees will be waived when people in Detroit adopt a pet, now through May 15.
Detroit Animal Care (DAC) is participating in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event during the first two weeks of May, according to a news release from the Detroit Health Department (DHD).
DAC is one of more than 275 shelters across 40 states that is waiving fees for the adoption and licensing of pets.
“Shelters across the country are over capacity, and highly adoptable pets are at risk as we face one of the largest crises in recent years,” Cathy Bissell, founder of Bissell Pet Foundation, said in the news release. “Bissell Pet Foundation is calling on people to visit their community shelters during Empty the Shelters to save a life through adoption. Without you, there is no tomorrow for these deserving pets.”
DAC is located at 7401 Chrysler Drive in Detroit. The shelter is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. seven days a week for adoptions, the news release noted.
All of the animals at the shelter are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and micro-chipped.
DAC staff invited anyone looking for a new pet to visit and view the dogs and cats seeking a permanent home.
