Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to hit the green to support Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry. The organization is hosting their 14th Annual Par for the Course event on Saturday, September 17 at Taylor Meadows Golf Course.
Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry is Michigan’s largest client choice pantry, serving families in need of either emergency or long-term food assistance. In 2021, the Par for the Course event helped Fish & Loaves purchase and distribute over 1.7 million pounds of food to help feed 21,634 households.
“We’re in a challenging position with increasing food prices and increasing demand for food assistance. The Par for the Course event is one of our main fundraisers to support the pantry and our mission of Ensuring No One Goes Hungry” said Stephanie McNees, executive director. “We’re on track to distribute over 2.2 million pounds of food this year to hungry families in the downriver area. We continue to rely on the outstanding support of our community to help us keep up with demand for food assistance” said McNees.
Online registration is currently open for those interested in participating in the event. The price is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf (scramble style), a continental breakfast, lunch at the turn, dinner, two-hour open bar service, prizes, and an opportunity to bid on a variety of amazing raffle prizes.
Fish and Loaves is also looking for sponsors for the event. Several sponsorship levels are available and offer a variety of benefits, including the opportunity to participate in the event.
“Sponsors have really enjoyed the opportunity to network with others or reward their employees with a golf outing, while also supporting the needs of local families” explains Event Chairperson Sue Vokal.
Local businesses that may not be able to sponsor, but can donate items or in-kind services for the event’s raffles are also being sought. “The raffle portion of the event has really grown over the years and is definitely a highlight of the event for participants. It’s a great opportunity for local businesses to support the event while marketing their own specialties explains Vokal.
“Given soaring food prices and the impact on family households that are already struggling to put food on the table, Fish & Loaves' mission in combating and ensuring good nutrition for those is need is more urgent than ever. The upcoming 'Par for the Course' event and the generous funds it raises will allow Fish & Loaves to continue to provide a fuller range of food, including meats and eggs, as well as fresh vegetables, that are dietary staples for most of us. Community support for 'Par for the Course' is crucial in meeting this goal" explains Reverend Geoffrey Drutchas, President of the Fish & Loaves Board of Directors.
