The Southgate Community schools district recently honored several student athletes for their accomplishments.
During a Dec.13 board of education meeting, the athletic director for Southgate, Kaendall McVicker, introduced several Titan Award winners for fall sports from both Anderson High School and Davidson Middle school. The Titan Award is given to one player from each team who exemplifies sportsmanship. They want to encourage the positive leaders and encouragers of their athletic programs who show selflessness, work ethic, teamwork, perseverance and good examples.
"So, we know these students exemplify Titan pride by showing selflessness, sportsmanship, commitment, honesty, positivity, toughness, work ethic, teamwork, focus, perseverance and exemplary behavior in school," McVicker said at the meeting. "It's also important to note that these are the team members who set a good example for others and exhibit the greatest all around attributes of leadership, character and teamwork. So, leadership seems to be a theme tonight.
The district also recognized record-breaking athletes from middle school and high school.
