Congratulations to the GI 2022 All-News-Herald 1st Team Football Players:

DEFENSE:  Matthew Pizzo, Grosse Ile: Pizzo came on strong and helped lead Grosse Ile to the playoffs. The junior defensive back and MHSFCA All-Region honoree finished with 103 total tackles, with 59 solo, and he had four interceptions and a fumble recovery. On offense, he carried the ball 29 times for 232 yards and six touchdowns and he had 30 receptions for 255 yards and a score. In addition, he caught a pass on a 2-point conversion play.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Hunter Proctor, Grosse Ile: Proctor did quite a bit for Grosse Ile and helped guide the team to the playoffs. Serving as a receiver, he caught 22 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns. Playing defensive back, he had 84 tackles (38 solo), two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown. In addition, he blocked a punt along the way. As the place kicker, he was 25-for-27 on PATs and averaged 40.3 yards on kickoffs. Also handling punting duties, he averaged 37.8 yards per kick.
