Enrollment at Gibraltar School District decreased by 0.3% compared to previous school year

There were 3,630 students enrolled in Gibraltar School District in the 2022-23 school year, 0.3% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.5% of them were boys, and 48.5% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 79.0% of the Gibraltar School District total enrollment.

Gibraltar School District covers seven schools within Wayne County with its main office in Woodhaven. Among them, Oscar A. Carlson High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,165 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
