State Representative Jamie Thompson, who serves Brownstown and part of Taylor in Michigan's 28th House District, issued a statement regarding a recent incident involving law enforcement and illegal immigrants. The situation unfolded on June 6th near Southland Mall, escalating into a high-speed chase that engaged multiple agencies including Taylor Police and the DEA. This pursuit involved significant resources such as K9 units, helicopters, and drones.
As a result of the chase, schools like Trillium Academy in Taylor and Gudith Elementary in Brownstown went into lockdown. The individuals involved were reportedly armed but were apprehended without further incident.
Thompson stated that local officials confirmed the two men were in the country illegally. "These criminals not only crossed our southern border unimpeded but were able to make it all the way to our Downriver communities," she said.
The representative linked this event to broader national policies: "This dangerous situation underscores a critical issue we face in Michigan: President Biden’s disastrous open border policies endanger our streets." She emphasized the need for secure borders and additional funding for law enforcement.
Expressing gratitude towards local police efforts, Thompson remarked, "I am incredibly grateful to our local law enforcement officers for their swift response." However, she criticized federal immigration policies for allowing such incidents to occur in her community.
Thompson pledged commitment to seeking solutions that would enhance safety in Michigan's educational institutions and neighborhoods.
