According to News-Herald, Magnum Tools, a Romulus company that manufactures construction tools and equipment, is now shifting most of its efforts to manufacturing face shields to help combat the spread of COVID-19.
Magnum says its new face shield is designed to decrease the spread of the coronavirus. The new face masks have gained momentum with the Downriver corporations. According to News-Herald, other companies outside the Downriver area are showing interest as well.
Dan Martin, who is the founder of Magnum Tools, says he elected to concentrate his efforts on the face shield production as the main project for the tool company. He says the idea came to him after touring a store, noticing arge numbers of customers who were coughing and sneezing without covering their mouths. That is the fastest way to spread the novel coronavirus.
That telling experience led Martin to the production of a prototype for a Plexiglass sneeze guard. Martin says the sneeze guard renders separation between people such as cashiers, who have to directly deal with the public.
Martin says that the goal is to make public spaces safe again for citizens who are out and about by providing a shield for workers.
The guards come in different heights and widths. Companies can order the shields for a desktop unit, or they can order an entire 6-foot shield for an entrance unit.
The company is in full manufacturing mode, and say they have plans to provide units for schools, convenience stores, gas stations and business offices.
Martin told News-Herald that his wife is a registered nurse. His wife has agreed to introduce the shield to hospitals and other health care facilities and administrators.
Martin also says there will be an rush of orders once restaurants are given the green light to open their doors again. “Our goal is to do this in volume,” Martin told News-Herald. “We’ve been able to bring back people we have laid off.”
